Scorpion Mezcal Silver
A dry bouquet, hints of lime, citrus, cucumber salt, and savory herbs, and on more warming: char, creosote, some spiciness, and a faint trace of balsam. This award-winning Scorpion Silver Mezcal is made in small batches in Oaxaca, Mexico, with a real scorpion in every bottle. This version is freshly distilled and bottled without aging. The distinctive bottle comes with its own little Scorpion Mezcal® sombrero.
Scorpion Mezcal is made from 100% agave. Most of their mezcal is double distilled in copper, but they also some some special editions that break from this trend. Their Reposado and Anejo offerings are aged in French Oak. Scorpion has been available in the US since 1996, which dates back to around the same time that Del Maguey began importing to the US as well. Their slogan is “Worms are for wimps” as each bottle has a scorpion at the bottom. Scorpion is made by distiller Doug French, who learned the trade from 3rd generation mezcalero Don Lupe. Doug also runs the Master Mezcalier program that is held in various cities across the US.

Clear. Complex, fruit fudge and smoky nose. A soft, round entry leads to a smooth medium body with delicate lemon grass, dried fruit, and spice flavors. Finishes with a long, silky, sweet, and hot spicy finish. A velvet brick.
Appearance: Clear as molten glass in the bottle- it is a beautiful thing. On swirling, it leaves a very light coating on the glass which belies its viscosity. Sitting in the glass it looks like a small puddle of sap or nectar. Quite a striking contrast to most clear spirits such as vodka.
First Impression: A dry bouquet, hints of lime, citrus, cucumber salt, and savory herbs, and on more warming: char, creosote, some spiciness, and a faint trace of balsam.
Taste: Dry and sweet at the same time somehow, lime, citrus, leather, and dry smoke, almost a tannic. Light and spritely on the tongue mouth feel, whispers down the throat and then leaves rather delicate warming considering the 80 proof with a smoky spicy aftertaste. Like a mesquite campfire, this is amazingly complex.
