BLATO 1902 Plc. Winery

Blato 1902 Plc. was founded as a Croatian farmers’ cooperative and is the legal successor of all forms of agricultural cooperation from its founding in 1902 until today.

The company seat is in Blato on the island of Korčula, where from the very beginning the business activity has been based on the production, processing, and sale of wine and extra virgin olive oil, the purchase of dried figs and carob and their processing into special brandies. Blato 1902 Plc. has in its possession as a production area ca 20 ha of Korčula’s wine region, where the amount of effort and resources invested combined with the favorable climatic conditions of southern Dalmatia result in grapes of the highest quality, which are used to produce top-quality wines.

The varieties grown are the native varieties of Korčula such as Plavac mali, Cetinka, Pošip, Maraštin and Zlatarica blatska as well as other varieties recognized worldwide – Merlot, Syrah, Malbec… We produce top-quality wines from the varieties Pošip, Plavac and Merlot; of the quality wines we would like to single out Korčulanka, produced from three native varieties of Korčula – Cetinka, Zlatarica blatska and Bratkovina bijela, and Morkan wine, produced from Plavac mali from the location Morkan. We use only our own grapes from this top location for the production of this Plavac.

Apart from agricultural production, Blato 1902 Plc. is also active in the restaurant business and commerce. For more than half a century we have had wine cellars and well-known restaurants and catering businesses in Zagreb and Rijeka, recognizable for their Mediterranean cuisine and top-quality service.

The company cooperates with more than 500 cooperators and is 100 percent owned by small shareholders – employees, former employees and cooperators. The continuity of the century-old business is itself proof enough that the combination of tradition and modern technology is the ideal recipe for the production of top-quality products.
